I'll try to update this blog often with pictures of Classic Broncos, restoration projects and tech tips.
On the occasional Thursday we'll show you some old photos from the early days of the Bronco, including some pictures from my childhood and the WWBB.
The pictures below are from the first few years of Desert Racing.
In those days there were few off-road tires to choose from. Commercially you had tires like the Gates Commandos, the Desert Dogs and the Armstrong Tru-Tracs.
The bigger, professional teams had sponsors at Firestone and Goodyear, who built special purpose tires for them. Shocks and suspension components were also difficult to come by.
This is where our first Bronco parts came from. People like Bill Stroppe, James Duff, Mickey Thompson and others created their own components and when the parts survived, then began manufacturing them for sale.
Any way onto the pictures
The photo of Big Oly busting over the berm, I was wondering if you know where that came from? I am writing a book about the Bronco History in off road racing for Car Tech Books and am trying to track down the photographer. Contact me as soon as possible please.
