Bronco Cryptozoology #34: The Bronco Delivery Wagon

Cryptozoology is the study of mythical creatures that may or may not exist.

This applies to Broncos how? Well, there is a lot of mystery and myths surrounding certain Bronco models and specialty-built Broncos.

So, this new segment at the blog will focus on these prototypes, one of a kind, special editions and the most historical Broncos ever built.

To keep the posts short, we will include only a brief story of each

We will try to separate fact from fiction and possibly come up with more questions than answers.

At first, I was going to compile this into one post, but it got waaay too long.

Among the many markets the classic Bronco was intended for is the delivery wagon segment.

While Ford already had a booming business selling their Econoline series vans to this market, the E-series was two-wheel drive only. This meant that someone in an area with unimproved roads or snow would have to buy a different vehicle to work in those elements. Ford wanted to make sure that the "different vehicle" was a Ford.

The Delivery Wagon models came standard with a bench seat, (buckets were optional) and a bulkhead, the spare was mounted in the bed on the tail gate or on the bulkhead, that is until Ford began installing the swing-away spear tire carrier.

So is this fact or fiction? Ford didn't have a "delivery model" per se, but they did market the Broncos for that application, and they did use the word "delivery wagon" in a press release describing the full wagon top, released on August 17, 1965 (see more here).
