Bronco Cryptozoology #36: Ballon Chaser Broncos

Cryptozoology is the study of mythical creatures that may or may not exist.

This applies to Broncos how? Well, there is a lot of mystery and myths surrounding certain Bronco models and specialty-built Broncos.

So, this new segment at the blog will focus on these prototypes, one of a kind, special editions and the most historical Broncos ever built.

To keep the posts short, we will include only a brief story of each

We will try to separate fact from fiction and possibly come up with more questions than answers.

At first, I was going to compile this into one post, but it got waaay too long.

The Limited-Edition Sail Balloon record attempt was sponsored by Ford and they supplied 6-10 vehicles (the actual number is not clear). At least two of those vehicles were Broncos.

There was a second Bronco that was used on the balloon tour, it was driven by Bill Stroppe's son Willie and was nicknamed "Gopher".

To confuse matters more, RVI built an unknown number of Broncos with varying options and all with the Balloon Chaser paint jobs. There could be 10 or there could be 100, no one knows.

One of the Balloon chaser painted Broncos was owned by K Bar S (or an employee of K Bar S) and featured in their catalogs.

That same Bronco is now owned by Wild Horses 4-Wheel Drive

In case you hadn't figured it out, this story and the Broncos are real
