Happy Labor Day to all the hard working Americans.....to those who are grifting or refuse to work.....your day is coming and you won't like it much....
Cryptozoology is the study of mythical creatures that may or may not exist.
This applies to Broncos how? Well, there is a lot of mystery and myths surrounding certain Bronco models and specialty-built Broncos.
So, this new segment at the blog will focus on these prototypes, one of a kind, special editions and the most historical Broncos ever built.
To keep the posts short, we will include only a brief story of each
We will try to separate fact from fiction and possibly come up with more questions than answers.
At first, I was going to compile this into one post, but it got waaay too long.
Most car guys have heard of the COPO Chevy Camaro, a special high-performance Camaro that could be ordered, if you knew the right codes, the right paperwork and the right people.
This happened with other cars and trucks of the muscle car era including our beloved classic Bronco.
Before we begin, we should probably rewind a bit. In 1960 International introduced their SUV called the Scout. It came in both 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive.
At this time Ford was still in the planning stages for their new SUV that would become the Bronco.
During that planning talk of a 2-wheel drive option turned into a side feasibility project. While the 2-wheel drive option was never publicized it was available if the Ford dealership knew how to place the order.
It was quite easy for Ford to create the 2WD version. They simply ordered the front axle with just a tube, no differential, no axles, just a hollow tube with steering knuckles and the radius arm mounts.
They used the transmission and crossmember from a 2wd F-100 truck.
Finding pictures of a 2WD Bronco is not easy, I found this one that was restomoded.
