Bronco Barn Finds: 1969 Sport

Starting a new segment here at the blog.....I was reminded the other day that there are still Broncos out in barns, garages and back yards the other day.... 

Not far from my home a man has two classic Broncos in his back yard......I intend to ask about them, I am sure he gets offers to buy them all the time, but maybe if I show up in my own classic Bronco he might see things differently.

Anyway this segment will show you what is being found out there.

This 1969 barn find is in exceptionally good shape, no visible rust.....but veteran Bronco owners know that there maybe more to the story when the vinyl carpeting is removed....

All in all though, a prime candidate for a restoration.

Bronco of the Day: The Huntsman

 Todays Bronco of the Day comes from Classic Broncos, a company dedicated to restoring and customizing our favorite 4x4.

The folks at Classic Broncos name all of their restorations and this one is called "The Huntsman". With is hunter green paint and ball glove leather interior, the name was an obvious choice.

The 1971 Bronco sits on new springs, progressive rate coils in the front and multi-leaf pack in the rear. The front also featured Stroppe style double shock mounts.

The 9" rear end was swapped out for a newer vintage model, but still wears the factory drums. The Dana 44 up front was given disc brakes. The slight lift combined with front and rear flares provided room for the 33" BFG tires.

The three speed manual and Dana 20 t-case are shifted via James Duff shifters and the interior was completely upgraded with new seats and panels in the aforementioned ball glove brown leather.

Bronco of the Day: Pegasus

 

Today's Bronco of the Day is a blast from the past....Pegasus, named after the mythical flying horse....look at one of the pictures below for evidence of "flying"

1973 Ford Bronco Ranger XLT came in Limestone Green Metallic, the owner modified and raced this Bronco in PNW4WDA events as part of the Good, Bad & Uglies 4x4 club throughout the late 70's and early 80's

It was even shown in the pages of Peterson's 4 Wheel & Off-Road magazine in Sept of 1988....I actually remember that issue...

This 1st picture is of the rear suspension of the Bronco that was ran by Rod Hall and Larry Minor to win the 1969 Baja 1000 (among many other races).

Note the in board mounted double shock arrangement, it looks like they took the rear shock mounts off a 1966 Bronco and installed them inside the frame rails

We have all made choices we regret.....

Not sure where I found this photo, could have come from my parents collection. We did know a guy from Hawaii named Al that had a '76 Bronco that looked a lot like this one.

Bronco of the Day

 Todays Bronco of the Day come from Nick Trix.

This Bronco was owned by a family and after years of sitting one of the sons decided to have it rebuilt while he was deployed to Afganistan.

The Bronco was stripped of its parts and 70% of the sheet metal replaced, a new roll cage was installed and the dash reimagined. The factory front seats were updated with new head rests and new upholstery.

The motor is a new 347 stroker backed by an NV3550 5 speed transmission. The axles got new innards including 4:56 gears.

The 3.5 inch lift is a mix of James Duff and Wild Horses parts.

 Todays Bronco of the Day from Rocky Roads

This 1972 Bronco has been upgraded with a new C-4 Auto, disc brakes at all 4 corners and a hydroboost power brake system. The motor is a rebuilt 351W.

The roll cage is from Ballie built, seats are from Pro Car. The D44 and 9" rear have 4.88 gears to turn the 35" tires, which are cleared via a 3.5" lift and fender flares.

 I thought this ugly post-apocalyptic looking Bronco would be appropriate for Halloween....

I am not even sure this is a Bronco or a home built rig made to look like one....
