This is part of our series on customizing your Bronco to make it unique.
See our post on Grills here
The Tailgate is often forgotten when it comes to custom paint jobs or body mods, but it is the last thing someone sees when you drive away.
The standard tailgates came with white, black or red letters on the tail gate, they could also have been left body color.
Broncitis has both the standard letters in Wimbledon White, Bright White, Gloss Black, Matte Black, Red and Silver, they also sell masking letters if you prefer to paint them. See those here
They also sell custom ones with flags, reflective, carbon fiber or camo, see those ones here
You could use their masking letters (or tape them off your self) and paint the tail gate in reverse, by painting the tailgate the body color, then masking off the letters and the top and bottom of the tail gate and just painting the center panel.
I did this on my Bronco as well
Before moving on to the serious customizations, I should mention that stainless steel handle, bezel and license plate brackets are available
Another option is building a custom panel to fill the center with wood paneling (or simulated wood) like the Dune Duster Bronco
Polished or brushed stainless and aluminum look good. This is what ICON puts on their version of the Bronco
Here is a custom one
You could also cover the entire indented area completely
then maybe add some louvers
or diamond plate
or paint it something wild
I have seen a few of these. They appear to be cut down 1967-72 F-series truck tailgates. The body lines still line up
Here is the full size truck tail gate for comparison
Here is the 1966 truck tailgate, note the font is different, these could also be used as the body lines match the Bronco
If you are good with welding body panels you could do something really different, check out these four:
