Bronco of the Day: K Bar S 1972 Tribute

Todays Bronco of the Day is a tribute to a shop that not only built and supplied Bronco parts to a lot of Bronco owners back in the day, but also built Broncos.

Much like Bill Stroppe's Long Beach, CA shop, the team at K Bar S in Las Vegas was building Broncos for desert racing which slowly became a business when other Bronco owners wanted to upgrade the equipment on their rigs.

There is no way to know how many Broncos received the K Bar S touch, but we do know that this isn't one of them

The owner bought the Bronco as a "barn find" it was white and in need of some TLC.

The owner decided to sand the white repaint down to the original Sea Pine Green, but circumstances required a repaint.

So the Bronco was stripped down and repainted, then the paint was aged by sanding it down, so some primer showed through and then the K Bar S lettering was added. This was followed by several coats of matte clear.

The Bronco already had some retro equipment on it, so he enhanced the look with some extra 70s-80s parts.

It has a 4-speed toploader conversion (which K Bar S used to sell under part # TL 100 along with the shifter #TL 104). Some K Bar S traction bars (#KS 530) sit out back. He also has the front axle truss (#KS 520) waiting to be installed.

The K Bar S tire cover looks too good to be original, but the owner didn't say if it was a reproduction or an original.

A Stroppe roll bar was restored (including the sticker) and added as was the Stroppe style sliding windows.

A set of vintage aluminum wagon wheels, stainless vent shades and a Warn winch bumper housing a vintage 8274 winch.

He even gave it a name, which was common with the rigs built by K Bar S.....he called it "Rattler"

To complete the look, he also had the moniker painted on the glove box door

...and the driver's side sticker "Off Road Prep by K Bar S"

Above you can see the freshly painted Sea Pine Green paint, below is where they sanded it down before applying the K Bar S signature lettering....also note the freshly painted Stroppe roll bar minus the sticker...

The freshly applied lettering before it too was aged

The finished product below

For comparison here is the "Dust Devil", a 1966 Roadster that WAS prepared by K Bar S
